The House on Wednesday approved a bill to bring an end to the longest government shutdown in U.S. history, following 43 days of stalled funding that left federal employees unpaid, disrupted travel at airports, and forced many families to rely on food banks.

Lawmakers returned to Washington this week after nearly two months away, and Republicans used their narrow majority to pass the measure by a 222–209 vote, largely along party lines. The Senate had previously cleared the legislation, sending it to President Donald Trump for final approval and he has signed it.
