An Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer is under investigation after a viral video showed him threatening to kill a 17-year-old Black driver, Trevion Taylor, during a traffic stop following an anti-ICE protest near Warren Central High School on the city’s east side on Feb. 6.
According to reports, Taylor noticed a police car following him as he drove away from the protest. Officers pulled over the vehicle after observing it leave the area, believing a juvenile male inside may have been armed. A loaded handgun was reportedly found, and one teen in the car was taken into custody.
The viral video shows an officer aggressively confronting Taylor and at least one other teen during the stop. At one point, the officer is heard saying “I will f—ing kill you, you understand me?” — language that has ignited outrage online and in the Indianapolis community.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department confirmed it is conducting an internal review of the incident as well as releasing the photo of the drugs and gun, according to Fox59. In a statement, IMPD acknowledged that some of the language captured on camera “does not reflect the standards or values of the IMPD” and noted the officer was wearing a body camera that recorded the encounter.
Family members and advocates have called for the full release of all body-worn camera footage and disciplinary action against the officer involved. Critics say the incident highlights ongoing concerns about how police interact with Black youth and the need for greater accountability in law enforcement.
