A tragic crash involving a police pursuit in Chicago has led to a potential multi-million dollar settlement for the family of a mother of six who lost her life in 2017.
According to CBS Chicago, 47-year-old Stacy Vaughn-Harrell, a Chicago mother of six, was killed when a vehicle being pursued by the Chicago Police Department slammed into her car during a high-speed chase.
The crash left Vaughn-Harrell dead and seriously injured her daughter, who was also inside the vehicle at the time of the collision.
Attorneys representing the family claim the police pursuit violated department policy and allege officers initially tried to downplay or deny that they were chasing the suspect involved. The claims reportedly surfaced through newly released video and court documents tied to the case.
Now, the Chicago City Council is considering a $27 million settlement for Vaughn-Harrell’s family as the case continues to draw attention across Chicago.
The tragedy has sparked renewed conversations about police pursuit policies and accountability in the city.
