The crash happened in the Ashburn neighborhood on the city’s Southwest Side near Columbus Avenue and Central Park Avenue. Police say a driver was traveling eastbound on Columbus when he suddenly lost control of the vehicle and slammed into a tree.

The impact was so powerful that it ripped the vehicle into two separate pieces. Debris from the crash scattered across the roadway, including parts of the car’s interior. Witness video from the scene showed the front and rear halves of the vehicle separated by several feet, highlighting the severity of the crash.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene and found two people inside the wreckage. The driver and a male passenger were both transported to Christ Hospital in critical condition. Their current conditions have not yet been publicly updated.

Authorities have not released the names of the victims, and it remains unclear what caused the driver to lose control. Investigators are still working to determine whether speed, road conditions, or other factors played a role in the crash.
