CHICAGO TEEN KILLED ON WAY TO SCHOOL, PERSON OF INTEREST IN CUSTODY

Family members have identified 17-year-old Pedro Ramirez as the teen who was shot and killed Tuesday morning while on the way to school in Chicago’s Back of the Yards neighborhood.

According to Cbs Chicago, Pedro was shot multiple times in the 5000-block of South Throop Street shortly before school hours. Two adults were also injured during the shooting and were transported to the hospital for treatment.

Pedro’s death has left loved ones heartbroken, including his fiancée, who said she is struggling to process the loss and comprehend how her boyfriend’s life was taken so suddenly.

The teen attended Tilden High School, where he was known as an honor roll student earning consecutive As. Family, friends, and classmates described him as a dedicated student with a bright future ahead.

Police previously confirmed that a person of interest is in custody as detectives continue investigating the deadly shooting. No charges have been announced at this time.

The tragedy has sparked renewed concern across Chicago over gun violence impacting young people, especially students traveling to and from school. Community members are now calling for justice for Pedro while mourning another young life lost too soon on the city’s South Side.
