Q: Chicago has a sound like nowhere else. How has the city shaped you as an artist?
Glizzy Glow:
Growing up in Chicago, I was always outside and around the culture. I feel like the city shaped me by helping me make fun music and bringing that energy into my artistry.
Q: Was there ever a moment where you almost walked away from this? If so, what kept you going?
Glizzy Glow:
I don’t think I ever had a moment where I wanted to completely walk away, but there were times I felt discouraged. What kept me going was remembering that everybody’s journey is different and keeping my eyes on the bigger picture.
Q: What was the process of creating your last project?
Glizzy Glow:
I was literally in the studio 12 to 13 hours a day during sessions. I was basically living in the studio. When I record, I get comfortable, lock in, and focus on creating. Once I looked up, the whole project was done.
Q: Which visual you created hits different every time you watch it back, and why?
Glizzy Glow:
I would say “The Breakup Song.” That was my first really big video with a major production, and it came out exactly how I pictured it. Seeing the vision come to life makes it special.
Q: If someone never heard your music before, what song would you play them and why?
Glizzy Glow:
I would play “Cut Water” because it’s one of my biggest songs. A lot of people connect with it, so it’s the song I would use to introduce people to my music.
Q: What is one thing you know you still need to level up on as an artist?
Glizzy Glow:
Being more consistent with content. I feel like you can never have enough content, and staying consistent is important.
Q: You’re currently signed — how has being part of a label been going for you?
Glizzy Glow:
I love it. I love my team. Anytime I’ve needed something or needed help with something, they’ve been there for me. It’s been a great experience so far.
Q: What is something the industry doesn’t tell you about being a signed artist?
Glizzy Glow:
I feel like the industry doesn’t really tell you much. People mostly learn from watching what other artists go through and creating their own opinions about what the industry is like.
Q: Who in Chicago do you think is slept on right now and deserves more flowers?
Glizzy Glow:
I would say Lil Mu. I feel like people are starting to learn who she is now, but she deserves those flowers.
Q: Where do you see yourself in the future?
Glizzy Glow:
I see myself being a successful mainstream artist and performing for as long as I possibly can.
Q: Give us something nobody knows about you — a real exclusive.
Glizzy Glow:
I like to read books. That’s something a lot of people probably don’t know about me.
Q: What never fails to put a smile on your face?
Glizzy Glow:
My kids. They’re my best friends.
