RETIRED CHICAGO POLICE OFFICER FATALLY SHOT IN WEST GARFIELD PARK

An ex-Chicago Police Department member was fatally shot on Thursday on the city’s West Side.

A 73-year-old male was shot several times at approximately 1:27 p.m. in the 4300 block of West Monroe Street in West Garfield Park, according to officials from the Chicago Police Department.

He initially received care at Stroger Hospital in critical condition, as reported by Chicago fire officials. The 73-year-old man was later declared deceased, according to CPD. The individual identified as a former Chicago police officer was confirmed by Chicago Alderman Jason Ervin when speaking to ABC7

The retired officer resided near the location of the shooting. He began his career with the Chicago Police Department in 1982 and concluded in 2010, as informed by his pastor to ABC7. He served in the area of arson and explosives within the police department and held the position of a bomb appraisal officer for TSA at the time of the incident.
