The South Side Sanctuary, conceptualized by Cecelia Cuff, a resident and entrepreneur in Bronzeville, is generating considerable enthusiasm. According to Cuff, her aim was to establish a welcoming environment where all individuals feel included.

The creation of a public outdoor plaza, also known as a POP, was funded by a grant of over $700,000. The South and West sides already have 10 other POPs, and the most recent addition is the South Side Sanctuary located at East 47th Street and South King Drive.
The South Side Sanctuary has a vast outdoor green space spanning 13,000 square feet, which offers an immersive experience. It includes a performance stage, grassy areas suitable for picnics and events, outdoor classrooms, and a market.
The establishment of the South Side Sanctuary generated employment for over 35 individuals and offered internships and vocational training in the areas of architecture and construction.
