Denzel Washington revealed that a scene in which he kisses another man was cut from GLADIATOR 2.
In the film, Washington plays Macrinus, a bisexual character who mentions having had relationships with other men in the past.
During a video interview with LGBTQ news outlet Gayety, Washington mentioned kissing a man on the lips while filming “Gladiator II” after being asked, “How gay is the Roman Empire?”
“I kissed a man in the film but they took it out, they cut it, I think they got chicken… I kissed a guy full on the lips and I guess they weren’t ready for that yet.”
Washington has not portrayed a gay character before, so society has mixed feelings about whether it would be acceptable for him to take on this role. Regardless, the “kiss of death” scene did not make the final cut.
“Gladiator II” opens in theaters Nov. 22nd.
