The University of Chicago along with the help of the Illinois Department of Human Services , created a pilot program that will pay families who are experiencing homelessness up to $6,500, if eligible.
Applications for payments through the Illinois Stability Investment for Family Housing will be accepted from now until early March.
Any family who meets the following criteria will be eligible to apply:
-The family must be currently experiencing homelessness.
-The family must have a child currently enrolled in school districts in Chicago, Harvey, East St. Louis, or other districts in the state.
-Families who have children currently enrolled in their school’s Students in Temporary Living Situations program.
-A student or guardian currently enrolled in state programs like SNAP, TANF or other food assistance programs.
Interested families can visit the IDHS website for applications. The deadline for applications is March 9th.
The goal of this program is to support children and families who don’t have stable housing or experiencing homelessness.
