CHICAGO STATE UNIVERSITY PLANS TO TURN 95TH STREET INTO A THRIVING COLLEGE HUB

Chicago State University is launching a bold initiative to revitalize the area surrounding its South Side campus by transforming 95th Street into a true college town. The university envisions a lively corridor filled with student housing, shops, restaurants, green spaces, and cultural venues—all designed to foster community and boost economic development.

According to Crain’s, University leaders say the goal is to enhance the student experience and invest in the surrounding Roseland and Pullman neighborhoods, which have historically been underserved. The project would bring new energy and opportunity to the South Side while making Chicago State a more attractive destination for prospective students.

While still in its planning stages, the proposal is gaining attention and support from city leaders, developers, and community organizations. If successful, the initiative could mark a major turning point for both the university and the surrounding community.

Proposals for the University Village 95 project are due by 3 p.m. CST on Oct. 16, 2025, with a development team expected to be selected by Dec. 8, 2025.
