Brewer teaches at Northwest Elementary School in Evergreen Park, where students, staff, and supporters surprised her this week with the award during a special celebration. The emotional moment recognized not only her teaching abilities, but also the relationships she has built with students and families throughout her career.

The Golden Apple Award is considered one of Illinois’ highest honors for educators. Each year, the award recognizes outstanding teachers across the state who demonstrate excellence in the classroom, strong leadership, and a lasting impact on their school communities.

According to the Golden Apple Foundation, recipients are selected through a competitive process that highlights educators who go above and beyond to inspire, support, and advocate for their students. Winners receive a cash award, a spring sabbatical through Northwestern University, and become part of the Golden Apple Academy of Educators, where they help mentor future teachers across Illinois.

Brewer was one of several teachers selected statewide this year, with school leaders and community members praising her passion for education and dedication to student success.
