Officers were responding to an alleged theft at Walmart when Kohen, his mother and another woman entered a vehicle. An officer fired, striking the child and wounding the other woman. Kohen’s mother denied any theft; neither woman has been charged, according to court records reviewed by The Associated Press.
Investigators said the car drove toward police. Family attorney Ben Crump disputes that account, citing an independent autopsy indicating Kohen was shot from the vehicle’s side. He continues demanding public access to footage supporting the state’s conclusion.
