Tubi, Fox’s free streaming network has announced that it will honor Black History Month with programming that will feature thousands of hours of Black cinema on its platform.
Among the programming is a new film based on the series, “Howard High,” a Tubi original musical drama. The film follows Howard High School, which is fighting to save its performing arts program as they battle against a rival school.
“Howard High” stars Marques Houston, who also wrote and co-produced the film alongside filmmaker Chris Stokes – Houston portrays teacher Michael Kirsh. Legendary R&B singer Keith Sweat also stars in the film acting as Emit Turner, the ex-teacher and rival of Kirsh.
Houston and Sweat spoke with WHATS THE WORD about the process of creating the film and what it was like to prepare for the roles.
“Howard High” will be available for stream on Tubi starting February 4, alongside other programming that highlights Black stories and talent during Black History Month.
