Jerry Finnigan was sentenced to 12 years in federal prison in 2011 after pleading guilty to a murder-for-hire plot and tax evasion. According to federal prison records, he was released from custody.
Finnigan used to be a member of the Special Operations Section, a citywide unit that was responsible for targeting narcotics dealers. However, the unit has now been disbanded. Finnigan and his crew of SOS cops were known to ransack homes without warrants, conduct illegal traffic stops, and shake down both criminals and innocent citizens.
Thirteen SOS officers faced criminal charges as part of the scandal, two of whom eventually went to prison: Keith Herrera and Jerome Finnigan, the leader of the crew.
