Taniya Smith, 20, was a youth mentor with Hood Heroes, a group that helps get teens summer jobs in Chicago.
ABC News, reported that she was shot and killed during a block club party at the Frances Cabrini rowhouses after being approached by foot by someone over the weekend.
According to her mom Cherie Stanfield, Taniya grew up part of the By the Hand Club for Kids after-school program and eventually became a youth mentor with Hood Heroes.
Taniya was shot in her chest, was transported to Northwestern Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
In the cell phone video footage that was obtained, showed a man being placed into police custody, but at this time, CPD would not say if any charges were filed in connection to the shooting.
