A 15-year-old boy has been charged with the shooting death of postal worker, Octavia Redmond, who was killed on July 19 in Chicago’s West Pullman neighborhood.

The teenager was arrested in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and has been extradited to Chicago to face first-degree murder charges. Redmond, 48, was shot multiple times while delivering mail and later pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center. The police found the getaway vehicle, a stolen Dodge Durango, abandoned and burned shortly after the incident. Surveillance footage captured key moments leading up to the shooting, helping to identify the suspect.
Redmond was remembered as a beloved member of the community, with residents expressing their sorrow over her loss. Ruth M. Mendonça, from the U.S. Postal Inspection Service emphasized the importance of justice for Redmond and the broader postal community, condemning the senseless violence.
