Chicago police said 48-year-old Mehnoosh Hatami was riding her motorcycle along South Lake Shore Drive on Wednesday night when she was struck and killed.
Authorities identified the driver as Miracle Hall, who was arrested shortly after the crash. Hall has been charged with aggravated DUI involving an accident resulting in death. She also faces two misdemeanor DUI charges, including one alleging that her blood-alcohol concentration was at least 0.08, along with several traffic citations.
Hatami’s children said their mother was on her way home from work when the deadly crash occurred. They remembered her as a loving, selfless woman who was always willing to help others.
Hatami was also passionate about motorcycles and belonged to a riding community dedicated to supporting and empowering women.

“If she’s looking right now from heaven, I would tell her I love her, and she’s made a big impact that I didn’t know she had,” her daughter, Niusha Khansanami, said.
“She’ll be missed,” added her son, Kiarash Khansanami.
Hundreds of motorcyclists joined Chicago United Riders for a memorial ride along Lake Shore Drive on Thursday night to honor Hatami. A cross was also placed near the scene of the crash.
Her family said they were deeply moved by the overwhelming support and tribute from Chicago’s motorcycle community.
Hall is scheduled to appear in court Saturday for a detention hearing.
A GoFundMe has been created to assist Hatami’s family with funeral and memorial expenses. Her service is scheduled for next Wednesday.
