An Oklahoma woman was arrested after allegedly giving her 2-year-old child to a man selling her drugs.
The charges were brought against Ashley Rowland, 39, last week in the city of Moore. According to KOCO, the investigation into Rowland began in April 2023, when the Oklahoma Department of Human Services tried to obtain custody of the child.
While they weren’t able to find the girl, they were able to find her mother, Rowland, with the help of the Moore Police Department. Rowland said her daughter was with her dad, in Georgia, but officials said they figured out that was a lie, at which point police got involved.
During a second interview, she told police she gave her daughter to a man she was buying meth from and that she was heavily on drugs at the time she gave the child away.
She identified the man as “Carlos,” who told her he was going back to Mexico the last time she saw him in April 2022. She says that was also the last time she saw her daughter.
Rowland is in the Oklahoma County Detention Center on a $3,000 bond.
The Oklahoma City Police Department is now assisting the Moore Police Department in the ongoing search for the child, who is now 5-years-old.
