Strides for Peace is hosting its 2nd Annual Race Against Gun Violence Prevention Expo to facilitate connections among organizations, young people, and raise funds. The event will take place at the University of Illinois Chicago’s Dorn Forum on November 21, 2024. This year’s theme is “Legacy of Leadership: Inspiring the Next Generation to Rise.” The goal is to connect young adult leaders with high school students to share their passions and raise awareness in their communities. awareness to their communities.
Approximately 200 students from Chicago public schools participated in this initiative. This group included representatives from several institutions, specifically Austin Career and College Academy High School, Michele Clark Academic Prep Magnet High School, John Marshall Metropolitan High School located in East Garfield Park, and North Lawndale High School. They will attend one of the most important parts of the expo which includes a panel discussion with friends of Blair Holt a 16-year-old who was shot & killed on a CTA bus in 2007, and Hadiya Pendleton who also murdered in 2013 in a park.
