MAN FOUND SHOT DEAD IN BURNING CHICAGO HOME

On Saturday morning, March 22, 2025, Chicago police and firefighters responded to a fire in the 4900 block of South Cornell Avenue in the East Hyde Park neighborhood. Upon extinguishing the blaze, they discovered 47-year-old Boyd Jarrell deceased with a gunshot wound to the head. Family members identified Jarrell, noting he had moved to the area following a divorce and was a father to a young daughter. 

Neighbors reported that one of Jarrell’s vehicles, an orange Lamborghini, was missing from his garage. Authorities later found the car crashed and abandoned on DuSable Lake Shore Drive near the Museum of Science and Industry around 3 a.m.

Residents expressed shock and concern over the incident. Neighbor Christopher Hague recounted being awakened by unusual noises and the smell of smoke, leading him to call 911 upon seeing smoke emanating from Jarrell’s home. 

As of now, the circumstances surrounding the fire and shooting remain unclear, and no suspects are in custody. Area One detectives are actively investigating the case.
