After three years of racing through Chicago’s streets, NASCAR has announced it will not return for the 2026 season. The decision follows the end of a three-year agreement with the city, which began in 2023.

While the event brought major excitement and economic impact—over $100 million in 2024 alone—it also caused logistical headaches and public pushback due to road closures and its July 4th weekend timing.
“We’re proud of what we’ve built, but it’s time to reassess,” said Julie Giese, president of the Chicago Street Race.

NASCAR plans to use the break to explore a new date, shorten setup timelines, and reduce community disruption. Officials say the race could return in 2027 with improvements.
Though 2026 is a no-go, NASCAR isn’t leaving Chicago behind. Its local office and community outreach will continue during the pause.
