CHICAGO MAYORAL CANDIDATE INTRODUCES NEW PLAN TO KEEP BEARS IN CHICAGO

Mayoral candidate Willie Wilson has proposed a five-point plan to keep the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field, including adding a dome, expanding capacity and bringing a Super Bowl to the city.

The Bears’ stadium situation is expected to become a major issue in Chicago’s 2027 mayoral race. Candidates will likely face questions about whether city officials can prevent the franchise from relocating.

The Bears have reportedly shifted much of their attention toward a potential stadium in Hammond, Indiana. Arlington Heights also remains an option if the team decides to stay in Illinois.

Wilson, however, believes the Bears can remain at Soldier Field. His five-point proposal includes:

  • Add a dome to Soldier Field.
  • Expand the stadium’s seating capacity to 70,000.
  • Work with the NFL to bring a Super Bowl to Chicago.
  • Sell the former Michael Reese Hospital property to the Bears for a nearby practice facility.
  • Give the Bears a 10-year cap on property taxes.

Wilson says the proposal would create jobs, support small businesses, improve Chicago’s lakefront and generate additional revenue for the city.

The Bears have not committed to Wilson’s proposal, but the team’s future is quickly becoming a central topic ahead of the next mayoral election.
