A string of shootings just blocks apart left two people dead and several others wounded early Sunday on Chicago’s West Side, according to police.
The violence began around 1:40 a.m. when officers found a 20-year-old woman with multiple gunshot wounds in the 200 block of N. Lamon Avenue. She was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital and was listed in good condition.
At about 2:48 a.m., another shooting erupted on Lacrosse Avenue in South Austin. Police said a 22-year-old woman was shot in the back and pronounced dead at Mt. Sinai Hospital. Five others were wounded, including a 17-year-old boy, a 29-year-old man, and an 18-year-old man — all critically injured with gunshot wounds to the thigh, leg, and chest/arm, respectively. Another 18-year-old man suffered a graze wound to the hand, and a 29-year-old woman was shot in the elbow; both were expected to recover.
Roughly three blocks away, around 4:37 a.m., an 18-year-old man was shot and killed on the 5000 block of W. Maypole Avenue. Police said he and another 18-year-old man were arguing with two people in a vehicle when the suspects opened fire. The victim was struck twice in the back and pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital. The second victim was shot in the arm and taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in good condition.
No arrests have been reported in any of the shootings as Area Four detectives continue their investigations.
