In Palm Coast, Florida, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) uncovered a fraud scheme involving employees at a Popeyes restaurant.
According to Yahoo.com, Chaniqua Richberg, 49, was arrested in April after a customer reported that their card was tapped twice: once at the drive‑thru and then again on a cellphone. There was an unauthorized charge of about $311.90.
A second employee, Shaunta Johnson, 42, was arrested on October 15 after a seven‑month investigation. Johnson is accused of orchestrating the scheme to make commissary payments to her boyfriend, who is incarcerated at Apalachee Correctional Institution in Sneads, Florida.
The charges against Johnson include: organized scheme to defraud, multiple counts of fraudulent use of a credit card, unlawful use of a two‑way communication device, and fraudulent use of personal identification information.
According to the sheriff’s office, the scheme exploited the drive‑thru process using customers’ cards. The cards would be processed for the order and then again surreptitiously to benefit the inmate commissary account.
