Police say the incident happened around 10:54 p.m. outside the facility on Vollmer Road. Investigators believe the contractor, identified as 27-year-old Dylan Perkins of Glenwood, got into a verbal dispute with a delivery driver in the parking lot. The confrontation reportedly escalated into a brief physical fight before the driver allegedly pulled out a handgun and fired multiple shots.

Officers arrived within minutes and attempted lifesaving measures before Perkins was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Authorities say the suspected shooter fled the scene following the shooting. The case remains under investigation by the Matteson Police Department and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force. Officials have described the incident as isolated and say there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Amazon released a statement confirming Perkins worked for a third-party contractor rather than directly for the company. The company said it is cooperating with investigators and expressed condolences to the victim’s loved ones.
