MAN DEAD, ANOTHER INJURED AFTER SHOOTING IN CHICAGO’S RIVER NORTH NEIGHBORHOOD

A man was killed and another was injured following an early morning shooting in Chicago’s River North neighborhood on Wednesday, prompting a police investigation in one of the city’s busiest downtown areas, according to NBC Chicago.

According to Chicago police, officers responded to reports of gunfire around 3:20 a.m. in the 500 block of North State Street. When officers arrived, they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds.

A 30-year-old man had been shot multiple times. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. His identity has not yet been released pending notification of his family.

A second victim, a 65-year-old man, suffered a gunshot wound to the foot. He was also taken to a local hospital and was reported to be in fair condition.

The circumstances leading up to the shooting remain under investigation, and police have not released information about a possible suspect or motive. No arrests have been made.

The shooting temporarily shut down portions of North State Street as investigators processed the scene and collected evidence. The incident drew a significant police presence to the popular River North entertainment district, which is home to numerous restaurants, bars, hotels, and businesses.

Area Three detectives are leading the investigation. Anyone with information about the shooting is encouraged to contact Chicago police or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers.

The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to determine what led to the deadly shooting.
