CHICAGO TEEN DIES IN NORTH PARK APARTMENT FIRE

A heartbreaking fire in Chicago’s North Park neighborhood on May 13, 2025, claimed the life of a 19-year-old woman with a disability. The blaze broke out around 1:30 p.m. in a second-floor apartment on the 5200 block of North Bernard Street.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke. Sallina Sareth was found deceased in a bedroom, unable to escape. Two others tried to save her but were overcome by smoke. A 45-year-old man was hospitalized in fair condition.

This tragedy highlights the critical need for fire safety, especially for those with disabilities. Working smoke alarms, accessible fire extinguishers, and clear escape plans can save lives.
