CHICAGO SUBURB HONORS 7-YEAR-OLD GIRL WHO SAVED HER FATHER WITH 911 CALL

A 7-year-old girl from Lynwood is being praised as a hero after her quick thinking helped save her father’s life, according to NBC Chicago.

Earlier this year, young Mia Dates sprang into action when her father, Xavier Dates, fell down the stairs inside their home and became unconscious. With her mother at work and no other adults around, Mia didn’t panic. Instead, she grabbed a phone and dialed 911.

Calmly speaking with the dispatcher, Mia explained what happened, provided her home address, and followed instructions until first responders arrived. She even made sure emergency crews could get inside quickly — a critical step that officials say helped save her father’s life.

This week, the Village of Lynwood honored Mia during a special ceremony attended by local leaders and first responders. She was presented with a Life-Saving Award and the key to the city in recognition of her bravery and maturity far beyond her years.

Officials say Mia’s actions are a powerful reminder of why teaching children how to call 911 is so important. In a frightening moment, she stayed focused — and that focus made all the difference.

Her father is now recovering, and the community is celebrating the little girl whose courage turned a terrifying situation into a story of hope.
