The family of a Chicago woman whose body was found inside a garbage can is demanding answers as police continue to investigate her death, according to Fox 32 Chicago.
The victim has been identified by loved ones as Zenobia Weatherspoons. Her decomposed body was discovered in a garbage can in an alley near West 54th Street and South Union Avenue in Chicago’s Back of the Yards neighborhood, after being missing for about 2 weeks.
According to family and friends, Weatherspoons had been missing for several weeks before her body was found. Residents in the area say the discovery has left the neighborhood shaken and searching for answers.
Chicago police have not publicly released details about how Weatherspoons died, and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office is working to determine her official cause and manner of death. The investigation remains ongoing, and no arrests have been announced.
The case has drawn widespread attention on social media after a graphic video allegedly showing the discovery of Weatherspoons’ body began circulating online. Family members and community advocates are urging people not to share the footage, saying it has caused additional pain to those mourning her loss.
“It’s very shocking but also disturbing, that someone would share an image of her like that. It’s really hurtful,” said Zenobia’s cousin, Tatiana Phillips.
Instead, loved ones are asking the public to remember Zenobia for who she was and to support their calls for justice. They are urging anyone with information about her disappearance or death to come forward and cooperate with investigators.
As detectives continue to piece together what happened, the family says they will not stop seeking answers until those responsible are identified and held accountable.
Anyone with information related to the case is encouraged to contact the Chicago Police Department or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers.
