A deadly encounter on Chicago’s Far South Side has left a teenage boy dead following an alleged armed robbery attempt, according to ABC Chicago.
Authorities say the incident unfolded Wednesday afternoon in the West Pullman neighborhood. A 16-year-old boy reportedly approached a 27-year-old man with a handgun and attempted to rob him.
Police say the situation quickly escalated when the man, who was also armed, pulled out his own weapon and fired, striking the teen in the chest.
The teen was rushed to a nearby hospital but was later pronounced dead.
Investigators recovered two firearms from the scene, and the older man was taken in for questioning as detectives work to determine whether the shooting was an act of self-defense.
So far:
– No charges have been filed
– The teen’s identity has not been released
– Area detectives are continuing their investigation
The incident adds to ongoing concerns about gun violence and the increasing number of young people involved in armed confrontations across the city.
Police are urging anyone with information to come forward as the investigation remains ongoing.
