In an interview on the Jan. 13 episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, SZA spoke on how the actress inspired her 2017 song, “Drew Barrymore.”

SZA told the Drew, “It was inspired by you. It wasn’t just titled after you. The energy that you carry, even my outfit, is inspired by the way you’ve made me feel my entire life, like the carefree [energy].”
She continued, “When you’re a younger black woman, there’s not a lot of examples, and one of the few lovely white women that I looked up to was you because you were so yourself. You gave me permission to be myself.”
