A Black business owner in Philly is speaking out after she claims she’s being bullied by her fellow neighbors who don’t want her restaurant in their area.
A newly opened Center City restaurant, with business owner, Shakeria Turner, has been getting bullied by neighbors who simply aren’t happy her business is there.
Turner says since opening, she’s been bullied by the neighbors in the area who believe her business doesn’t belong. They’ve tried filing false complaints against her claiming the establishment is noisy throughout the night, even though it’s a brunch restaurant that closes at 3 p.m. on weekdays. They’ve tried flooding her building and removing her signs. They’ve even tried putting dead rats in front of her door to potentially scare her off. Turner says she once got confronted in person by someone who seemingly tried to racially profile her.
“I even had someone tell me to my face, ‘How did I get here? Did I use my drug dealer baby daddy money?’ So it’s hurtful. It’s extremely hurtful,” Turner said.
Since speaking out, those in the community and even from other cities/countries have been showing support to ‘Chubby Chicks.’
