On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, a bold midday smash-and-grab robbery occurred at the Kay Jewelers store located in The Maxwell shopping complex at 1010 S. Canal Street in Chicago’s South Loop.
At approximately 12:09 p.m., four suspects entered the store wielding blunt objects, which they used to shatter glass display cases before making off with an undisclosed amount of jewelry.
According to ABC News, the assailants fled southbound on Canal Street in a black vehicle, possibly an Alfa Romeo. No injuries were reported, and no arrests have been made as of yet.
This incident is part of a troubling trend of smash-and-grab burglaries targeting jewelry stores in the Chicago area. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as the investigation continues.
