CHICAGO MAN CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED MURDER IN WALMART SHOOTING

A 20-year-old Chicago man has been charged with attempted murder after a violent shooting inside an Evergreen Park Walmart left two people injured earlier this week.

According to WGN News, the suspect, Yoseph K. Barnes, allegedly opened fire inside the Walmart Supercenter located near 95th Street and Western Avenue following a heated argument with another man. The confrontation quickly escalated, sending terrified shoppers running for cover as gunshots rang out through the store.

Investigators say the shooting stemmed from a dispute between Barnes and a 23-year-old man, who was shot multiple times inside the store and rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center in serious condition.

A 70-year-old woman, described as an innocent bystander, was struck in the foot outside the entrance and taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital, where she’s expected to recover.

Witnesses told police that Barnes arrived at the scene in a gray Hyundai before chasing the victim into the store and firing several shots. Officers from multiple agencies responded quickly, taking Barnes into custody within 15 minutes. A firearm was recovered at the scene.

Barnes has been formally charged with attempted murder and is expected to appear in court at the Bridgeview Courthouse on Friday. Evergreen Park police said more charges could be added pending further investigation.
