Police in Dolton are investigating a dramatic early-morning break-in at Lucky Star Entertainment after a group of masked thieves used sledgehammers to smash their way into the business and steal money from gaming machines, according to CBS News.
The burglary happened on Sibley Boulevard, where surveillance footage captured several suspects wearing dark clothing and ski masks. They shattered the front glass door, rushed inside, and began breaking open gaming machines to get to the cash boxes.
Authorities say the suspects fled the scene in a black Dodge Challenger with no visible license plates just as police arrived. Officers briefly gave chase, but the pursuit was called off due to high speeds and public safety concerns.
According to the business owner, this isn’t the first time the lounge has been targeted. Lucky Star Entertainment has been hit three times by burglars using similar tactics, leaving both the owner and nearby business owners frustrated and fearful.
“It’s scary,” one neighboring shop owner said. “They keep hitting the same places over and over. We’re just trying to make a living.”
Police are reviewing security footage and urging anyone with information to come forward. The incident adds to growing concern among small business owners in the area about a rise in overnight burglaries targeting gaming establishments across the south suburbs.
Police are asking anyone with tips or information about the robbery to come forward.
