KEITH SWEAT EXPLAINS WHY MODERN R&B IS DEAD

R&B legend Keith Sweat recently appeared on The Breakfast Club to share his thoughts on the current state of R&B music, and his remarks sparked conversation among fans of the genre.

During the interview, Sweat addressed the idea that R&B is “dead.” He pushed back, saying the genre itself isn’t gone, but its sound has changed significantly over the years. According to Sweat, many modern R&B artists blend the genre with rap and heavy profanity, which shifts the focus away from traditional R&B’s soulful roots.

“R&B is about melody, emotion, and connecting with the listener,” Sweat explained. “When you start mixing in too much rap language or following trends, you lose what makes R&B special.”

Despite his critique, Sweat acknowledged that many contemporary artists continue to honor classic R&B sounds, often sampling songs from legends like himself. He emphasized that these timeless melodies still resonate with audiences, proving that the heart of R&B endures.
