A Miami-Dade man faces additional charges after allegedly trying to assault a detective during his arrest for sexually battering a college student, according to NBC Miami.
Steven Devon Mason Rivers, 30, was arrested in connection with the sexual battery of a Florida Memorial University student. Surveillance footage shows Rivers following the victim on campus before attacking her near a door after she refused to hand over her cellphone. DNA evidence later linked him to the crime.
During his arrest, Rivers allegedly reached toward the lead female detective and attempted to grab her while she held a door open. Deputies quickly restrained him and prevented the contact. According to the arrest report, Rivers reportedly chuckled afterward and made a dismissive remark.
Rivers now faces additional charges, including attempted sexual battery, battery on a police officer, and resisting an officer. Authorities describe him as a danger to the community and are investigating whether there may be other victims.
