A delivery robot made an unexpected stop at a local bus shelter this week after crashing through a glass panel, leaving shards scattered across the sidewalk. The incident occurred in the city’s downtown area and was captured on video by passersby.
The small autonomous robot, operated by Serve Robotics, was navigating the sidewalk when it collided with the bus stop shelter. In the footage, the robot can be seen driving directly into the glass and then attempting to shake off fragments before being retrieved by a company employee. Workers responsible for the bus shelter’s advertising quickly cleaned up the mess.
Chicago has been testing autonomous delivery robots as part of a city pilot program, allowing companies to use sidewalks to deliver food and small goods. While these robots offer convenience, residents have voiced safety concerns, including collisions like this one and potential sidewalk congestion.
