Six middle school students from a suburban Chicago-area school were hospitalized Wednesday after officials say they may have consumed THC-infused gummies on campus, prompting an emergency response and an ongoing investigation by school and law enforcement officials.

According to WGN News, the incident happened at Round Lake Middle School in Round Lake Heights, located in Chicago’s far northern suburbs. According to district officials, school staff were alerted in the morning after several students began showing signs of illness while at school. Nurses quickly evaluated the students before emergency responders were called to the scene.

Authorities said all six students were transported to nearby hospitals out of an abundance of caution. While their conditions were initially concerning, officials later confirmed that none of the cases were considered life-threatening and all students were expected to recover.

The source of the gummies remains under investigation. Officials have not confirmed how the students obtained the items or whether they knowingly consumed them. School administrators are working closely with local police to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and whether any disciplinary or legal action may follow.

Emergency personnel from multiple departments responded to the school, with ambulances arriving to assist as staff worked to stabilize the students. The situation caused concern among parents and led to heightened awareness throughout the district as word of the incident spread.

The episode has renewed attention on the risks associated with cannabis edibles, especially among minors. THC-infused products can resemble regular candy, making accidental ingestion a growing concern in schools across the Chicago region and beyond. Health officials continue to warn that even small amounts of these substances can lead to serious reactions in young people.

Him As the investigation continues, school leaders are reminding families to talk with students about the dangers of unknown substances and the importance of reporting anything suspicious to trusted adults or school staff immediately.
