Brandon Johnson is renewing his push to keep the Chicago Bears in the city as stadium negotiations reach a critical stage, according to NBC Chicago.
The future of the Bears’ home has been a major topic of debate across Chicago and the region, with discussions centering on whether the team will remain within city limits or move to a suburban or out-of-state site. Recently, those options appear to be narrowing.
Last month, two proposed sites for a new Chicago Bears stadium inside the city were deemed not “feasible,” according to a report from ESPN. That development has shifted attention toward two leading alternatives: Arlington Heights and a site near Wolf Lake in Hammond, Indiana. Both locations have been discussed as potential long-term homes for the franchise, especially as the team and the NFL evaluate financing, land availability, and infrastructure needs.
Despite those setbacks for Chicago’s in-city proposals, Mayor Johnson is continuing to advocate for keeping the Bears within Chicago’s borders. He is scheduled to travel to Springfield to meet with Illinois lawmakers in an effort to ensure the city remains part of the stadium conversation and is not eliminated as a possibility moving forward.
Speaking at City Hall, Johnson reinforced his position when asked about the future of Soldier Field. “The best thing to do for Soldier Field is to make sure the Bears are playing there,” he said. “I still firmly believe that the best place for the Bears to play is in the city of Chicago.”
The stakes in this debate go beyond sports. City officials and community leaders argue that keeping the Bears in Chicago would preserve economic activity tied to game days, support local businesses, and maintain one of the NFL’s most historic franchises in its long-time home. Soldier Field, located on the lakefront, has been the team’s home for decades and remains one of the league’s most iconic stadiums.
As talks continue and competing sites gain traction, Chicago’s position remains clear: the city is still actively fighting to keep the Bears where many fans believe they belong.
