GUNFIRE ON CHICAGO EXPRESSWAY LEAVES CTA RIDER INJURED

A CTA passenger was injured Sunday morning after gunfire on the Dan Ryan Expressway struck a Red Line train near the 95th Street station, according to CBS Chicago.

According to Illinois State Police, the shooting happened around 9:45 a.m. on the northbound lanes of Interstate 94. Preliminary information indicates that multiple vehicles were involved in a shooting incident while traveling on the expressway.

During the exchange of gunfire, a bullet hit a window on a CTA Red Line train operating near the 95th Street terminal. The impact caused the glass to shatter, sending fragments into the train and injuring a passenger.

Officials said a 46-year-old man was struck by the broken glass and suffered injuries to his face and body. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment and was reported to be in good condition.

The incident startled riders aboard the train and highlighted ongoing concerns about gun violence along Chicago-area expressways. While the victim was not struck directly by gunfire, authorities said the shattered window created a dangerous situation for passengers traveling through the area.

Investigators have not released descriptions of any suspects or vehicles involved. Illinois State Police are continuing to gather evidence and review surveillance footage from nearby locations as they work to determine what led to the shooting.

CTA service was not significantly impacted, but the incident drew attention from law enforcement agencies responding to the scene.
