Three teenagers were wounded in a shooting late Saturday night during a large gathering in Chicago’s West Side North Lawndale neighborhood, according to CBS Chicago.
Chicago police said officers were already in the area of the 1400 block of S. Christiana Avenue around 11:30 p.m. when gunfire erupted. The scene quickly turned chaotic as a large crowd scattered, making it difficult for officers to immediately determine where the shots were coming from or who was responsible.
Authorities said the victims include a 19-year-old man who was struck in the groin and forearm. He was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition. Two other victims—a 19-year-old woman and an 18-year-old woman—were also shot and taken to the same hospital. Both were reported to be in good condition after receiving treatment.
Investigators said the shooting happened during what appeared to be a large outdoor gathering, but it is still unclear what led up to the gunfire or whether the victims were specifically targeted. No arrests have been announced as of Sunday, and police have not released any information about possible suspects.
Detectives from the Chicago Police Department Harrison Area are actively investigating the incident. Officials are working to review any available surveillance footage and speak with witnesses who were present at the scene.
The shooting adds to ongoing concerns about violence during large weekend gatherings in parts of the city, where rapid crowd movement and limited visibility often complicate police response efforts.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Chicago police or submit anonymous tips through local crime-fighting channels.
This remains an active investigation.
