CHICAGO RAPPER 051 DRILLA REPORTEDLY SHOT, HOSPITALIZED IN CRITICAL CONDITION

Chicago rapper 051 Drilla was reportedly shot multiple times early Friday morning in West Chesterfield, a neighborhood on Chicago’s Far South Side.

According to ABC 7 Chicago, the shooting happened around midnight in the 8800 block of South State Street.

Chicago police said the victim was inside his vehicle when he was shot in the chest, forearm and eye. Despite his injuries, he was reportedly able to escape the scene and call for help.

The man was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition.

ChiTown Crime Chasers and multiple hip-hop media outlets later identified the victim as 29-year-old rapper 051 Drilla. Chicago police have not publicly confirmed that identification.

Drilla gained attention within Chicago’s drill scene through records including “51 Dead Opps,” which became one of his most recognized releases after going viral several years ago.

The shooting comes just five days after 22-year-old Chicago rapper BloodHound Q50, born Mikquale Cooper, was killed in a separate shooting at a gas station in Fuller Park, a neighborhood on Chicago’s South Side.

Q50’s death left Chicago’s rap community mourning another young artist gone too soon. Authorities have not announced any connection between his killing and the shooting involving Drilla.

No suspects are currently in custody in Drilla’s shooting. Area Two detectives are investigating, and additional information has not been released.
