A 41-year-old woman was hospitalized in critical condition after being struck by a bullet inside her home on the West Side Monday evening.
Sharon Young reported hearing gunshots near her home while checking on her daughter, Angel, who was sleeping in another room of their second-floor apartment.
A bullet pierced through the exterior wall and struck Angel in the head.
She was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where she was listed in serious condition.
After police arrived, they found approximately 30 bullet casings on the street. They continued their investigation on Tuesday afternoon, gathering more evidence.
Police have not disclosed whether they believe the shooting was targeted or if the victim was struck by a stray bullet. According to ABC News, Angel’s mother described her as an innocent person who would “take the shoes off her feet and give them to you.”
Nobody was in custody as of Tuesday afternoon. Area Four detectives are investigating.
