Chicago authorities are investigating a heartbreaking discovery after a 25-year-old woman and a 1-year-old child were found dead inside a residence on the city’s South Side.
According to police, the mother Kendrea Richardson and her baby boy Ellis Washington were found unresponsive in an apartment Tuesday afternoon in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Chicago Police Department and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office are working to determine the cause of death, with autopsies pending. Investigators are not ruling out any possibilities as they await toxicology results and continue to interview those who may have had contact with the victims.
Neighbors and community members have expressed shock and sadness over the deaths, especially the loss of such a young child. “It’s devastating,” one resident said. “You never expect something like this to happen so close to home.”
As the investigation continues, anyone with information is urged to contact Chicago police.
