3 PEOPLE INJURED IN SHOOTING AT BALLOON RELEASE IN CHICAGO’S SOUTH SUBURB

A balloon release meant to honor a loved one ended in tragedy Tuesday evening after shots rang out in Dolton, Illinois, a south suburb of Chicago.

Authorities said the gathering was being held near 151st Street and Cornell Avenue when a suspect suddenly emerged from bushes and opened fire on those in attendance.

Three people were struck by bullets. According to ABC News, all were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, according to officials.

The shooter fled the scene, and as of Tuesday night, no arrests had been made. Police are canvassing the area and asking the public to come forward with any information.
