Over the weekend, Rev. Al Sharpton led a “buy-in” with 100 members of his National Action Network at the Harlem Costco to support the company in rejecting a bid that challenged its corporate DEI policies.
Fox News reported that last Friday, Costco shareholders voted against an anti-DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) proposal presented by the activist shareholder group National Center for Public Policy Research. This measure aimed to require the wholesale grocery chain to produce a report detailing the risks associated with its DEI policies.
Al Sharpton stated that he purchased $25 gift certificates for the 100 participants involved in the “buy in” initiative. These certificates could be used at Costco to thank the wholesale giant for maintaining its commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).
“We’re going shopping at Costco because they’ve stood with us. People that stand with us, we will stand with them,” Sharpton said.
