HELICOPTER MAKES EMERGENCY LANDING ON CHICAGO’S GOLF COURSE

 A helicopter with a mechanical problem landed on a South Side golf course Monday night, Chicago Fire Department officials said.

According to Chicago Fire Department personnel, a helicopter landed near the first hole of the course, located at 6401 South Richards Drive, following a “mechanical issue.” The helicopter was still sitting on the first hole of the course Tuesday, as the Federal Aviation Administration investigates what forced it to make an emergency landing there.

According to ABC News, police have been stationed at Jackson Golf Course to guard the helicopter. Aviation records show that the helicopter’s tail number is registered to SummerSkyz, a helicopter tour company based in Lansing, Michigan, which offers tours along Lake Michigan.

The NTSB said the, “pilot smelled a burning odor, felt a vibration in the tail boom, heard and felt clicking.”

The company that owns the aircraft is SummerSkyz, a helicopter tour agency out of Lansing.

The National Transportation Safety Board is now leading the investigation into the cause of this emergency landing.
