Mariah Ivy, a 20-year-old resident of Steger, Illinois, was visiting a third-floor apartment in the 8000 block of South Manistee Avenue. Around 5:15 p.m., an unknown assailant entered the apartment, brandished a firearm, and fired a shot. In a desperate attempt to escape, both Ivy and a 21-year-old male companion leaped from the third-floor window.
Ivy sustained critical injuries and was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead on Monday afternoon. The male victim suffered injuries to both legs and was hospitalized in serious condition. Authorities are actively investigating the incident, with no arrests reported at this time.
